Yikes I hit an SUV
| | | | Batmobile gets hit |
A bad series of events caused me to hit a big Suburban. I was in FAS going down a slight hill preparing for a left turn.A hedge blocked my view of the turn, sun hit me in the eyes as I passed hedge and made the turn, and the Suburban driver was going very slow.I finally saw the SUV when it was about 15-20 feet in front of me. Insurance is willing to give me $1400 after my $500 deductible. I pulled the door off of Bluebird 1, removed the mirror components and replaced the broken parts on my door. I pulled the lock cylinder from my door, and swapped it with the blue one, so the blue door would be ready to install once painted, with the correct lock. I will drive with my dented door till they paint the blue one, then a simple swap could fix it.Could have been much worse.

Batmobile is back
| | | | It is fixed | I finally got around to putting the repainted blue door and mirror on the car. The paint match is great, and that torn Vicor sign is finally gone.

getting it fixed
| | | | Red door with blue handle | Nephew Troy and I pulled the door on the blue Insight, removed the door handle /lock assembly, removed the mirror drive mechanism. We put the mirror drive in my mirror, so I could have a good rear view mirror. We pulled my door handle, and replaced it with the blue one. The door, mirror cover, from the blue Insight, along with the door handle/lock from my car was brought to Precision Auto re builders in Dudley MA, for painting, with my door handle as a color reference, they will repaint the door, and once finished, I should be able to just swap doors and be back in business.

Google maps helps describe accident
| | | | top view of accident scene | As usual I had to send my insurance company a description of the accident, so I figured I would try something different. I used Google maps to show the roads, and marked up the screen dump in MS publisher. They liked it, and it is much more descriptive than some sketches.
