MIMA system Included DVD not shown

The MIMA backorder list is growing steadily:
users page and waiting list

I will be ordering enough boards and other components to build 100 systems rather than the originally planned 50 systems.
The orders on the waiting list will be contacted by phone in the order that they sent me the forms. Once contacted, you will send payment, and the systems will be set out in the order that payments were received. I will be setting up a pay pal account so payment will be easier.

Whats new and different.

1.The system will NO LONGER be offered as a build it your self kit.

2.The mini discrete display that proved popular and easier to read, but was difficult to hand wire with a new PC board, this will be the standard display, and will be included in the price.

3.MIMA becomes a true plug in:
Because of the strong demand for MIMA, and the difficulty in finding an outside fab house to fabricate the special pins, I will bring MIMA to the next level by making it into a full plug in with no pin popping or other detailed wiring required.

The bicolor and other discrete displays will be available while supplies of the boards are still in stock.

MIMA Status August 19 2008:

I have 60 completed controller boards in hand, and the rest are at the fabricators, with all the required parts. The new display boards, temperature boards are also being built.
I found one half of the two connectors required for fan and the current sensor connectors Honda sells the 2 and 3 pin shells(was for a civic tail light)The fan and the current sensor connectors. They also sell the pins crimped onto pigtails, but the price is pretty high, and the other side of the connector is considered part of the harness so they do not sell them separately.
I may still have to make the adapters my self if I can't find them.

The new MIMA plug in adapter PC board schematic has been drawn and the physical PC board size has been determined, the distribution board has a generous breadboard area so we can be ready for an LCD display, or other options not yet planned.
I have found a job shop that can crimp the AMP/TYCO pins to the short wires for me, so that issue is solved.
a blog about the harness progress, showing the proposed plug in boards is here:

Building the plug in harness

I can say that the full blown system with FAS, the new low profile display, two joysticks, and the "Plug in harness" will be in the $1000-1200 range.
The "Plug in" harness will be nearly plug and play.
A short summary of what an install would be like:
Pull rear rug,get the IMA switch cover off, turn off the IMA circuit breaker/switch, pull 12V battery negative.
Take off the IMA cover, access the ECM, and remove the shift and e-brake covers.
You fish two plastic wiring tubes from the back of the car to the front. (removing the passenger seat helps a lot, but is not required)

Unpack the MIMA harness, straighten it out, feed the connector end from the front to the back through the tubes. The front harness fans out into two sub harnesses. The passenger side one, will have the FAS module connected to the Plug in adapter board

The PLUG IN ADAPTER:
This board will have the same connector as the ECM/MCM does on one side, and short wires leading to the four harness duplicates on the other. The MIMA harness, and the FAS module will also connect to this board, and can be attached(with some soldering) after the system is installed.

The ECM side install :
Access the ECM by the same procedure as shown in the video.
Pop out the four harness connectors.
Plug the four harness connector duplicates from the MIMA plug in adapter board into the ECM.
Plug the four stock harness connectors into the MIMA plug in adapter board.
Put the ECM back in.
The MIMA board is mounted and the two ribbon cables plugged in as shown in th present instructions.

The rear side install :
Plug the rear harness into the front harness (locking connector)
Pull the four harness connectors out of the MCM
Plug the MIMA plug in adapter board duplicate harness connectors into the MCM
Plug the cars stock harness into the MIMA plug in adapter board.
This rear MIMA plug in adapter board has several sub harnesses, the two temperature probes, one for the MPI, and the other for battery temperature.
A small harness runs to the fan control plug in adapter,
Another to the battery current sensor plug in adapter.
Both of these adapters will just plug between the two stock connectors.
I was hoping to offer a lower cost "Hardwired harness", but in reviewing everything, I don't believe this is a good idea, and the additional labor to manufacture it may somewhat offset the higher component cost of the full plug in.The hardwired harness would involve a second set of components, and a completely different manufacturing setup, and would involve about the same amount of manufacturing time on my end. The ability to screw up the install with a hardwired harness is orders of magnitude greater than with the plug in, and based on my previous experience, will involve a lot of support from me. I had to spend several hours on telephone support on many of the original installs, and also the last plug in harness. The plug in harness will be 100% tested here, so there should be no issues in the field except for any issues with the mechanical disassembly and re-assembly. As I start to gather the system cost, it is looking better than I originally estimated, and I should be able to set the real price in about 2 weeks after I assemble some of the harnesses and finish building the test fixtures.

I will keep this page updated with the progress, and photos as soon as I have some hardware in hand.
Thanks for your patience
Mike

To get on the list, download the Two legal forms, print them, send them to me(address on the forms)
Waiver Of Liability
Transfer of ownership
Then send me an e-mail to let me know they are on the way, and to establish contact information. I will update the users page showing you on the waiting list, and I will send you the install video so you can see exactly what is involved in the install.
The reason I ask that you go through this process is to show that you have more than a passing interest. There is no deposit necessary, and you can chose to not get a system once they are available.

Thanks to all of the MIMA users for taking a chance with such a deep modification, and I hope your MIMA grin continues.
Mike

Please refer to the MIMA system and Installation Instructions on this site to become familiar with all aspects of the system and to understand what is involved in the installation.
New plug in install instructions will follow once I get the first new harness in hand.
Feel free to give me a call @ (860)-935-5569 to discuss MIMA and the install.

If I am to continue with the level of support for MIMA, my research into how to cheaply add electric propulsion to standard vehicles, develop V-boost,and E+drive capabilities for the Insight and civic, I can't afford to work for $15 an hour building MIMA, so I will be sub contracting as much as possible, and I will assemble and final test each system and harness..

I can not give a price estimate for the system,as I will not know the cost until everything is in place.

The deeper I get into the process of looking for subcontractors and seeing how my project fits into their schedules, the more I am seeing the folly of trying to predict when systems will be ready.

I still do consulting work, still need to make progress on my many other projects, and I want to do a nice job on this next run of MIMA systems.
Lets push MIMA systems estimate out to the end of August, into September, and give me some breathing room, so I can find good subcontractors at a reasonable price, and have time to document the new procedures and design the most robust plug in system I can.

Once the systems components are in hand, I will contact you via e-mail,and try to call you.
We will discuss the installation, and the system options that will be available.

Payment in full before shipping.Pay pal,Bank check, or money order will expedite shipping.

If you send a personnel check, the check will have to clear before I ship.

I will include another video with the plug in instructions with the shipment.
Thanks again for your interest and patience.
Mike
