The MIMA Joystick

The MIMA kit and assembled MIMA systems, do not have finished mounts or enclosures for the joystick and display.

The first reason is that since the joystick and MIMA display are new control items for the Insight, there is no standard place to mount them, and everyone has their own opinion as to what works best for them. The second reason is that to have a custom fabricated enclosure made for the joystick and display, when the volume is so low would make the system too expensive. When one sees a nicely shaped gaming joystick selling for less than $20, it would lead one to believe that it should be possible to come up with a nice looking joystick enclosure for the same price. They make 10 to 100 thousand of the enclosures, so the high price of the mold design and fabrication is spread out over all of those, therefore the low price.

There are less than 30 MIMA systems in the world today (5/18/2007). As we get more MIMA systems out there, some standard and convienient locations and styles will become obvious, and at that point, I will make a 2 part mold from one of them, and be able to offer a finished system that includes a finished display and joystick mount for a reasonable price. Until then, epoxy putty will be supplied with the MIMA systems and kits; and the following instructions on how to fabricate your own mount, as well as suggested mounting locations will have to suffice.
